THE ASSOCIATION FOR ITALIAN VOLPINOS’ LOVERS IS BORN

A.T.A.V.I.

As all Italian breeds, also the Italian Volpino has really ancient origin.

Like all others spitz of the 5^th F.C.I. group, it comes from the Canis Familiaris Palustris of Stone Age.

During the course of time, the local breeding selection generate the different breeds, the Samoyed, the Finnish spitz, the Norwegian Elkhound, the Japan spitz, the Belgian Schipperke and all the German spitz, small, medium and large sizes (Wolfspitz). The Italian Volpino after centuries of successes has risked the extinction, due to changes of fashion, and recovered only by valuable breeders who will remain always in the history.

There are two colour varieties, the white and the red one. Today the Volpino is well bred from few breed fans, working together to make rise the breed, most of these breeder working in different parts of the World.  These strengths inspired all the Italian Volpino breeders so the ATAVI has officially born as Technical Association of Italian Volpino’ Lovers.

The Italian Kennel Club (ENCI) on 5 MARCH 2010 recognised officially ATAVI.

It’s easy to understand that relations between breeders are not always easy, but in this case ATAVI is an exception, and ALL breeders works together for the main goal.
